don’t vacillate

In today’s society, there is so much happening on a daily basis and there is so much information and misinformation that a person often doesn’t know what to think.  Believers are not immune from the constant bombardment of the enemies attack to make what is right appear to be wrong and what is wrong appear to be right.  This should not take us by surprise because that is the tactic of our spiritual enemy.  Yet, it does wear on a person often bringing distress and weariness.  At that point as a believer we have a place to turn to and find encouragement.  Listen to God’s Word in
2 Thessalonians 2:13-15:

“But we must always thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because as a firstfruit
God has chosen you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
He called you to this through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught,
either by our message or by our letter.”

When life seems chaotic we have a place to stand firm and not be blown about by the storms that come our way.  We should remember “we are loved by the Lord”.  God loves us and holds us in His hands.  We should also keep in our mind “God has chosen you for salvation”.  In Christ Jesus has called you to a new life in Him, one with the promise of eternal life with Him.  We should know when the world seems amiss God is still working His salvation in us “through sanctification by the Spirit through belief in the truth.”  We can be encouraged that our faith is not in vain, God’s Spirit is guiding and protecting our growth in holiness.  As a result we can stand firm to the truth of God’s Word that we have been taught.  So don’t vacillate, don’t give the devil any place to discourage, or distress you about the world.  We stand firm in His Word and His work.  Let’s finish with 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17:

“May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us
and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace,
encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.”

Amen and amen! Don’t vacillate, stand firm!
